FONTANA — Given its tucked-away location on the tranquil south side of Geneva Lake, flanked by multimillion-dollar estates hidden under leafy canopies, Big Foot Country Club is something of a mystery, at least to Wisconsin golfers.
Though it is a member of the Wisconsin State Golf Association, Big Foot has a largely Illinois membership and more closely aligns with the Chicago District Golf Association. The club has never played host to the Wisconsin State Amateur or State Open, though it could do so in a heartbeat.
Ask any 10 golfers who live north of Highway 50 in Kenosha County if they’ve heard of Big Foot, and you’re likely to get nine blank stares.
“We do kind of fly under the radar,” said Bill Elwood, the club president.
